The Legislature continues to review Governor Baker's suggested changes to the Short Term Rentals bill. Though much of the Legislature is away on summer recess, staffers are still working. If you are inclined to reach out to your own legislators, please do so with this (or similar) message: The creation of this bill was a collaborative process and we're thrilled with the bill the Legislature passed. The effort should not be sidetracked due to the Governor's suggested changes. Unnecessary delay may prevent anything from happening on this issue, so we urge legislative leaders to make this a priority. In particular, we ask that MLA members reach out to the eight Senators who expressed concerns on the bill after it was passed by the Legislature - Senators Ryan Fattman of Webster, Vinny deMacedo of Plymouth, Patrick O'Connor of Weymouth, Dean Tran of Fitchburg, Bruce Tarr of Gloucester, Donald Humason of Westfield, Richard Ross of Wrentham, and Spencer Anne Gobi - reach out to express concern for their dilatory efforts. You can reach your legislator at 617-722-2000 or www.malegislature.gov. Please copy me on all letters sent or let me know of any verbal communication.
