Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims of this tragic shooting in Las Vegas. As an industry, no issue is more important to us than safety and security. As we learn more about the facts of the tragic shootings in Las Vegas, we will be working with our members on how best to further protect our most valuable assets: the guests and employees at our hotels and the community at large. We would urge all of our Massachusetts Lodging establishments to continue to work in partnership with area law enforcement, your staff and safety experts to continue to review all such protocols. These policies include but are not limited to: Policies that ask hotel staff that if they "see something, say something." We urge all of our Massachusetts lodging properties to continue to visit with their staff about the importance of this practice on an everyday basis and especially prior to and during major city wide events. Do Not Disturb (DND) policies for guest rooms during major city wide events and other situations in which large crowds may be gathered. Currently, most lodging establishments allow guests for very limited time periods, to request that their rooms not be entered for cleaning during their stay. However, lodging establishments generally require that guest rooms subject to a DND request should still be entered for routine cleaning after three days. Lodging establishments should consider how best to address DND policies in general especially during major events in which there will be large crowds. Please know that your national and state lodging association are available to assist on these vital issues. If you have any questions, please email info@masslodging.com.
